I have my Valentines cake ordered. I want to get a Big Cookie and a med Sausage Pizza. I go to the hospital for lunch and they said they are not doing anything special. I went all out and got a real Christmas top. However I do not have anything special to wear for Valentines Day. I think that I should get one. That will be fun. What are your plans? I am going to be in a beauty pagent in Augest and I was wondering if I should do a acting thing for the talnet part of the pagent that is my best talent and I don’t think anyone else would try to do this.

How do you avoid paying income tax on appreciation after selling your house?
My understanding is if you sell your house for more than you paid and put into it, the remaining amount gets taxed as income if you don’t roll it into a new mortgage in less than 18 months. Is that accurate? If I’m moving but may not be able to buy a new house for more than 18 months, is there any way to avoid paying taxes on those funds? I will have about $100,000 appreciation after deducting original purchase price and invested funds. I am in Idaho if that matters. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

I recommend:
1) If the house is your primary residence and you have been living there for over 2 years out of the last 5 years, you will automatically get an exemption from capital gains tax in the amount of $250k ($500k if married filing jointly and both lived in the house for 2 of 5 years).
2) If this was an income property, then you can do a 1031 like-kind exchange within 180 days to avoid capital appreciation tax.
3) If you are 55 and older, there may be a once-in-a-lifetime exemption of $125k from an older law.

Does anyone own a Krups xp2070? I am looking at this one because it is reasonably priced for a pump espresso machine and has the coffee maker with a timer. Are there any other recommendations for a dual, pump, with a timer? Thanks!!!
ha! that’s the only coffee maker/espresso machine with a 15 bar pump and a timer that i’ve ever seen. i wanted one so bad. I couldn’t find that model when i was shopping for them. we ended up getting a nice coffee maker and a nice espresso machine seperately. I’ve never seen another one so I’d go for that one.

Victoria Spivey – Any Kind A Man (1934)
Victoria Spivey (1908 – 1976)
got her start in music at age twelve when she began playing piano in a movie theatre in Houston, Texas. From there she expanded her musical career to playing in saloons and whorehouses. She was was a big fan of the Blues singer Ida Cox and modeled her own career after Cox’s. In 1926 at the the age of twenty she travelled to St. Louis where Okeh records was on a field trip looking for new acts to record.
In 1929 she played a small role in King Vidor’s early film musical “Hallelujah”. As the Blues craze and the record industry in general hit the skids in the early 1930s, Spivey somehow managed to keep recording and performing unlike almost all of the other Classic Blues singers. She expanded into playing in vaudeville musical revues, including the acclaimed Hellzapoppin’ Revue in New York City and recorded and toured with Louis Armstrong and his Orchestra. Spivey was constantly working, playing countless one-night stands throughout the 1930s and 1940s, but by the l950s, Spivey had left show business, but continued singing in the church choir in her home in Brooklyn. Victoria returned to show business in 1962 when she formed her own record company, Spivey Records. Her first record on the label featured Bob Dylan as an accompanist. So, Spivey’s career began again in the early 1960s; she began performing in folk and blues festivals and in nightclubs in and around New York City and continued to record for the rest of her life.

What is your thought on all day kindergarten? My granddaughter goes to all day kindergarten and is READING!?
I think all day kindergarten should be a priority as it provides a head start on learning! Especially in the poorer neighborhoods . My granddaughter goes to Stout Field in the all day program and is reading! This may not be a 4 Star, Blue Ribbon school, but having the option of all day kindergarten is certainly a start. My daughter paid a fee for kindergarten and it was about the same as for the 4th grade book fees. Why wouldn’t a parent want this for their child. And the school district should want this for the future of our children and our country. My granddaughter is also doing a little math and her vacabulary is awsome. Please do what you can to make all day kindergarten a priority. Thank you, concerned Grandma.
All-day kindergarten is really an either/or option. A student who receives "academic" support at home can easily achieve the same things as one who attends all-day kindergarten. As long as kids are encouraged to use their imaginations through reading, playing and going outside, there is no reason for them to be in school all day at that age. Some students at that age aren’t ready to be away from their parents for an entire day. There are definitely benefits, but the same results can be achieved through attention and care at home.
